to online environments as a solution to long distance

course delivery. This research is looking two different aspects of online learning – whether the use of pattern languages that embed subject domain and educational theory in the design process lead to improved student learning outcomes, and whether 3D desktop virtual learning environments provide

superior pedagogy to online 2D text-based learning materials.
